Five Minute Friday: ORDINARY

The skinny: "1. Write for 5 minutes flat for pure unedited love of the written word. (On your blog or in the comments).
2. Link back here and invite others to join in {you can grab the button code in my blog footer}.
3. Go leave some comment props for the five minute artist who linked up before you.
It’s a great way to catch your breath at the end of a long week."
The prompt: ORDINARY

Ordinary.  That word is basically a sucker punch.  Whatever the girl equivalent of getting kicked in the nuts- that's what the word ordinary does to me.  Which is ironic, considering how truly ordinary I am.

No one wants to be ordinary.  No one wants to blend in.  We all want to feel like we're special, like we have something to offer, that basically the world would stop spinning on its axis if something were to happen to us.  Which is total bullshit, but also...somewhat true.

Did I grow up to be a criminal profiler for the FBI with secret telepathic skills that I only revealed to my partner, Fox Mulder, while we quietly went about saving the world from complete and total annihilation? Not exactly. Turns out, to be in the FBI, you have to be able to run.  So that was out.

But still.  Ordinary as I am, look at me.  If I were to vanish (probably for some sinister reason relating to my secret telepathic skills and Fox Mulder, most likely) who would stop Warren from eating the clumps of hair that Daisy pulls out and discards on the way to school? Who would try to patiently explain to Scott that his Nemo is RIGHT THE FUCK WHERE HE LEFT HIM LAST NIGHT? Who would laugh at Ava's 'jokes'?

So yeah.  I'm ordinary.  I turned out vastly more boring and traditional and typical and ORDINARY than I ever thought I would.  But, and I cringe to be THAT mom who says that, and honestly, I never thought, in a million years, these words would leave my fingertips...being the mother to these extraordinary children is pretty fucking rad.

My timer dinged a few minutes ago, but I kept going.  Oops.
