Over Coffee

If we were having coffee this morning, I would tell you that Nick finally got his orders and I'm just devastated that we really have to leave.  Like, absolutely gutted.

I'm trying to look on the bright side, but I'm not a bright side kinda gal.  The bright side is obviously that we're going somewhere slightly cool (Northern California) but the realistic Debbie Downer in me is angry that we can't stay here, that Nick didn't get the assignment in Vancouver (where they filmed The X Files!!!) and is about eighty five percent sure the Navy will call a do over and send us to Norfolk instead.

The bright side is that we'll be close to amazing national parks and the Redwood Forest, which I saw as a little girl and remember as being the absolute coolest thing in the history of ever.  But the Debbie Downer is nagging everyone she meets about how expensive it is to live where we're going (I think we might be going near Silicon Valley but I'm not entirely sure what Silicon Valley is exactly, so I'm not sure?) We can't afford to live in out in town (the towns are Mountain View and Sunnyvale- not to be confused with SunnyDALE- if anyone has any inside info on the area) but I can't have Nick having a commute (bc he has to do breakfast AND baths for those kids) so we're crossing our fingers for base housing, which is apparently gross and tiny.

The bright side is that we get to move again, which I sort of love. But the Debbie Downer is quick to remind me that we'll be laying over for about a month in South Florida and Biloxi and it's usually about two billion degrees with infinity humidity in July.  Bright side, Disney World!!! Debbie Downer- Disney World!!! With the Entirety of Planet Earth!! Plus Heat!!!

Aha!! Bright Side- SUNSHINE!!! Even I can't come up with a Debbie Downer about leaving British weather, except the old fallback- I don't want to leave.
Don't remind me of how foggy it gets in the bay area. I'm barely holding on over here.

  1. I know where Sunnyvale is! It's on the way from San Fran to Santa Clara! That area is seriously the best and I'm super jealous of you. I hope to be living out there within the next five years. I know you will love the Bay area. :)

    1. I'm actually pretty stoked he got this assignment- I was nervous it would be San Diego (which wouldn't be the end of the world) or Virginia, which would kill me.

  2. Oh, I'm sorry that's bad news! But honestly, Northern Cal is so beautiful. But yeah...expensive. I guess since you don't have a choice, there's not much you can do about where you end up other than to look at the bright side. A chance to see Disney World and the Redwood forest sounds pretty cool! Even so, everyone needs to let their Debbie Downer out once in a while.

    1. I am SUPER excited to see the Redwoods again. I just have the most AMAZING memory of being up there when I was little. Finger's crossed it's as badass as I've made it out to be ;)

  3. Oh man, I am jealous. I would be jumping for joy to move to the Bay Area. Except for the expensive-ness of it all, its such an awesome place... so much to do and see. Good luck!!!
